As part of an effective information governance program, enterprises
need to manage
desktop information to improve retention compliance, reduce litigation
risk, and improve productivity.
Trusted Edge and C2C
enables the enterprise to define policies that actively classify,
file, retain, and dispose of information created, read, modified,
and stored on desktops, laptops, and file servers. These products
extends corporate control to desktop information, by managing all
desktop information throughout its lifecycle. All desktop documents
and emails are managed, tracked, and controlled, from creation through
the end of their retention period, according to corporate policy.
Against this backdrop, however, is today’s reality. Enterprises
have too much information, stored in too many places, with too few
controls. Information volumes are growing 50-75% each year, information
is shared rapidly across the enterprise, and litigation is ever
increasing. Some information is stored in structured repositories
and databases, but 85% is stored, unmanaged, at desktops and file
servers, under the control of the individual employee.
Although most enterprise information is created, used, and stored
at the desktop,
desktop information is unmanaged. Storing desktop information on
file servers
simplifies backup, but leaves the information under the control
of the end-user, not under corporate control. Even if an enterprise
has a structured document repository, participation in the repository
is typically low. And to the extent that the repository is configured
to be used as a high-end file server, repository files are not governed
by corporate policies. What is needed is a solution that helps the
enterprise manage, track, and control its information, by helping
knowledge workers automatically apply corporate policies to the
information that they create, use, and store at their desktops.
The solution must help employees easily classify information, so
the information can be automatic all managed according to corporate
policies throughout its lifecycle. This is what is meant by adding
business context and relevance to your information.
